PRESS RELEASE: The Central Georgia Women of Impact: Awards Ceremony and Reception will take place Saturday, March 8th at The Douglass Theatre in Macon
THE DOUGLASS THEATRE, RUTH HARTLEY MOSLEY MEMORIAL WOMEN’S CENTER, AND TUBMAN MUSEUM COME TOGETHER FOR A SECOND YEAR TO CELEBRATE WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH.
March 05, 2025 (Macon, GA)- The Douglass Theatre, Ruth Hartley Mosely Memorial Women’s Center, and Tubman Museum have come together for a second year to celebrate Women History Month with the Central Georgia Women of Impact: Awards Ceremony & Reception. The event will spotlight and honor women who have made a significant contribution and impact on Central Georgia communities through ambition, action, and attainment.
“Three local institutions that represent the African American culture coming together to celebrate women speaks to and spotlight how “we as leaders” are working to be more collaborative and inclusive across the community; and what better way to showcase this than celebrating women together, especially those Sheroes, who are thriving and whose consistent hard-work continues to give voice to the significant roles and impact that women have in our communities,” says Dr. Shelton Land, Executive Director, Douglass Theatre. Sylvia McGee, Board Chair of the Ruth Hartley Mosley Memorial Women’s Center says, “Fifty years from now, when future generations ask, “why or how” we want them to point to this consortium of leaders as a means of inspiration and motivation around the importance of bonding together to honor the past, present, and future strides made by women.
The 2025 class of honorees include: Muriel Jackson, Head Librarian and Archivist of the Genealogical & Historical room at the Washington Memorial Library lead librarian; Gina Ward, past director of the Douglass Theatre, who served 21 years in the position; Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, current president and chief executive officer of the Morehouse School of Medicine (Atlanta) and Southwest H.S. alumni; Dr. Joy King,healthcare professional and president-elect of the Georgia Nurses Association; Renita Patterson, Vice President of Engagement at the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce; and Chi Ezekwueche, former board chair of the Tubman African Museum and founder of Pan African Festival of Georgia.
Harold Young, Executive Director of the Tubman Museum, says, “Working together to honor and bring these women to the forefront further amplifies the voices of women, who are driving culture and change across the community and inspiring others through their work is critically important.
The Awards & Reception Ceremony takes place on Saturday, March 8 at 3:30PM. The awards ceremony will be hosted at the Douglass Theatre at 3.30PM; followed by a Reception at the Tubman Museum at 5:30PM. There will also be an art exhibit -Strength of Women- by local artist, Afrika Hamilton-on display at the Douglass Theatre that spotlight the power of legendary women.
